Smith: Bush was right when he said "mission accomplished"

So distancing himself from Bush on the Iraq War that Gordon Smith has been trying on?  Uh..not so much:

“When the president stood on the aircraft carrier (and said) ‘Mission accomplished,’ he was right. He was right as to all we could win.

All we could win? Seriously?

We've set off a powder keg in this region. We've totally and completely underminded our credibility. And Smith is still talking about what we can win????

Oy.

Another Type of Mission (0.00 / 0)
DPO and/or the candidates need to get staff or volunteers to follow Smith around with camcorders.  This was a YouTube moment.

Even the administration doesn't think "Mission Accomplished" was right.  It went so far as to blame the military for that sign, an accusation which turned out not to be true.

I'm not sure why the newspaper parenthesized "he said," though, because I don't believe the phrase was in Bush's speech.

This is something the DSCC should be doing. It should be funding stringers to follow all GOP Senators. This is a way that the DSCC can help during the primaries without aiding any specific campaign or candidate.

cheers,

Mitch Gore

Out of touch (4.00 / 1)
There's really no other way to describe it.

Senator Smith does not belong to the reality-based community.

Maybe it's all a misunderstanding... (4.50 / 2)
When I was small, I was a big fan of the space shots.  I guess I got on board, so to speak, early on in the Gemini program (I was a wee bit too young to really pay attention to the Mercury flights).

Anyway, in the early part of my space enthrallment, I was confused, because I thought they were saying "This is Michigan Control in Houston."  Clever little guy that I was, I knew that Houston was a significant distance from Michigan.  My confusion was eased when it pointed out to me that they were, in fact, saying "Mission Control", not "Michigan Control."

Maybe Smith was really saying that he agreed with the President that Michigan has been accomplished.

Hah!  Hey Carla and TJ--is there some way that we can recommend comments?  This made milk come out my nose.
